Fantasy Tour: Eclectic Design

Their rural setting and wonderful views were taken into account when these homeowners designed their bed and bath.

The dramatic bedroom has unusual rooflines accentuated by high-contrast ceiling and wall colors, and a warm color scheme.

Host Joan Kohn visits the newly built master suite of Mike and Maureen Gnecco, who took advantage of their rural setting and wonderful views when designing their bed and bath.

Designer Michelle Shields of The Great Room Company helped them create a dramatic bedroom emphasizing the unusual roof angles and integrate the bed and bath areas so they share space and light while still providing privacy.

The gabled roofline created interesting volumes in the master suite. To emphasize the lines and angles, the ceiling was painted white and the walls a rich gold. Furniture was appropriately placed so that the sloping ceiling did not interfere with headroom.
Symmetry was important in connecting the bed and bath. The bed sits under a large window, and the whirlpool tub, visible through interior French doors, sits under a four-foot casement window. The patio doors allow the bed and bath to share light. It also visually brings the whirlpool into the bedroom.
The walk-in closet was placed in the corner under a sloping roofline for extra space.
Both the bed and bath have built-in niches for a TV.
In the bath, two different stones were mixed for a rich look: a dark marble counter and shower enclosure are combined with limestone flooring and accent tiles.
The shower accommodates two shower heads and has a glass door for an open, airy feel.
