Hide CaptionShow CaptionThe basement is transformed with bold colors and separate areas for each of the kids' activities.
With a budget of $1,300, designer Val Thwing has banished the beige and brought in a bright, vibrant color scheme with separate zones for reading, art projects, dancing and games. The reading nook by the stairs is turned into a dual-purpose dance studio with a mirrored wall, laminate wood floor and ballet barre for Camille. The kids also created a custom stage backdrop that hangs from the ceiling and can be displayed whenever they want to act out a scene.
