Materials and Tools:
matchbooks
scissors
decoupage or watered-down glue
empty container
paintbrush
old door (or scrap lumber)
Steps:
1. Cut matches from their covers to prevent a fire hazard. Cut the matchbook covers to reveal the front and back of the design. If desired, leave the black strike strip on some of them to give the project added visual interest.
2. Use a paintbrush to apply an even layer of glue to a small area of the chosen wood surface. Immediately place one or two matchbook covers on top of the glue and press them down.
3. Continue this technique until the entire surface is covered as desired. Arrange the covers in a mosaic pattern and randomly overlap some.
4. Once the surface is completely covered with the covers, brush a layer of glue on top of them to seal the design in place (it will dry clear).
