Materials and Tools:
two complementary fabrics
iron
measuring tape
Steps:
1. Place mats generally measure 12" x 18" so start by cutting out rectangles that measure 14" x 20". This will allow for a half-inch to be folded over twice as hems all the way around. Once the pieces are cut, iron the hems in place. Unfold the corners and trim them slightly to remove the bulk. Put the folds back into position.
2. Put the two pieces for each place mat wrong sides together and stitch around the edges.
For the napkins, cut 21-inch squares for each one; iron over a 1/4-inch hem twice, and then sew the hems in place.
