This open, airy Napa Valley, California, kitchen with its clean modern lines and simple country warmth, is a favorite summer spot for interior designer Penny Rozis.

She gutted the space and opened up the view to the pool area with a round window, which adds distinctive visual interest to an otherwise plain wall. Below the window is a concrete seat perched at a 36-inch height. Usually it's topped with an upholstered cushion, but when left bare it's perfect for an impromptu buffet space. The door leading outside is painted a high-gloss red for a punch of color in the neutral space.
