An abundance of color makes for a rich, inviting look on the first floor, where red, green and wood tones dominate. Worn fabrics in subdued colors cover the furniture in the living room. A wicker chair features an upholstered back for a more formal take on a what's usually a casual piece of furniture. The two side tables are a perfect example of Newton's flair for combining rustic and formal furnishings — one is a French-inspired piece with a marble top, the other a simple colonial table with a round wooden top. The orginal 8-inch fireplace mantel didn't suit her needs, so she added a larger one below for a stacked effect.
