Randy Kubaszak's converted garage apartment is without style and flair. What he really wants is a hip bachelor pad with a lounge-y feeling. Kristan Cunningham, Dave Sheinkopf and Spencer Anderson put their heads together and come up with a plan for Kubaszak's living room. Read on and find out how they did it.
After: Moody, Masculine Vibe
Kristan Cunningham, Dave Sheinkopf and Spencer Anderson put their heads together and come up with a plan for Kubaszak's living room. A dark brown color goes on the walls to start the moody new look. The couch is replaced with a custom circular sofa and a wall-mounted desk is a dual-purpose addition to the small space. Other improvements include wall art, a new area rug and a solution for the closet. Read below for more info on the design.
Furniture - $602
Sheinkopf replaces Kubaszak's existing desk with a wall-mounted desktop. He purchases a prefinished piece of wood that's been created out of 14 pieces of wood and treated with a phenolic finish, which means it is highly resiliant and waterproof. He drill holes into the outer corners of the desktop and suspends it from the wall with eye bolts (secured in the wall and the desktop corners), two metal rings (secured to the eye bolts in the wall), S-hooks (attached to the eye bolts in the desk) and chain. The desktop is also secured to the wall underneath with screws.
A new TV cabinet makes a sophisticated statement. (entertainment center cubes: Target - Lynette Jennings 074070514, 074070502, 074070510)
Matching bar stools provide more seating in the small space. (bar stools: IKEA - silver with wood seat 40000060)
Art and Accessories - $209
Cunningham paints a stylized olive design on four canvases, which hang over the entertainment unit. S
She also paints two additional pieces in a coordinating stripe-and-olive design below right.
An off-white shaggy rug in front of the sofa softens the hard tile floor. (flokati rug: Home Decorators - White 22024-30840)
Fabrics and Window Treatments - $105
Windows are dressed with white Roman shades that are embellished with an olive fabric band. (Roman shades: IKEA - Iris Roman Shades, 40054029)
Kubaszak's chair is given a new look with a light green slipcover.
The closet sheers are replaced with camel-colored fabric panels. (panels: Target - 068030717, 068030399)
Paint and Supplies - $41
The white walls are warmed up with a rich chocolate-colored paint. (wall paint: Behr - Burleywood S-H-700D)
Lighting - $35
A hanging light over the bar and a contemporary table lamp add ambient lighting.
Project Total - $992
