Make sure there’s enough room above your cooktop. Many newer homes have either gas or electric cooktops instead of a traditional stove. They're convenient and reasonably simple to install. But just like traditional stoves, some safety rules must be followed when installing a cooktop.
- Noncombustible materials should always surround the cooktop.
- An 18-inch minimum clearance is required above the cooktop for safety reasons.
- Follow manufacturer’s directions for installation. If you have problems hire a professional.
Cooktops are convenient, energy efficient and they look great, but just remember: When it comes to proper installation and safety, you have to cook by the book.
