Hide CaptionShow CaptionThe couple's living and dining room doesn't reflect their style.
Homeowners Nick and Jessa recently brought their first home. Their living and dining areas are the most important rooms in the house. It is where they spend most of their time with each other, and with friends and family. But, the space feels disjointed and lacks cohesiveness; the couple has rearranged the furniture more than 20 times trying to get it just right. Lucky for them, designer Karen McAloon is on her way over to help them plan their space and find their style.

Most of the living and dining room is filled with hand-me-down furnishings that don’t reflect their style. The only items in the room they’ve purchased are the leather sofas. The clean-lined sofas are contemporary in form, but the rich caramel color is very earthy and organic. Most of the room is also filled with warm earth tones and natural materials, that is, except the couple’s art collection. It is bright, bold and very modern. Taking all this into consideration, Karen determines the couple’s design style should combine contemporary aesthetics with Mediterranean warmth and charm.
