Before: This narrow patio is awkward for eating and doesn't encourage people to enjoy the entire backyard space.

After: Non-toxic pressure-treated lumber becomes steps while woven furniture, colorful curtains and shoji screens lend a subtle Asian flair to the area.
Bobby and Kala Sherman's yard has a small patio that makes it difficult for them to entertain, and their dogs trample the plants and track mud into their house. With the help of host Susie Coelho and the Outer Spaces team, the Sherman yard is transformed into a dog-friendly area with a contemporary Asian theme. Designer Jerry Hritz leads the way as a row of water features are installed and the dining area is moved off the existing patio to a new extension in the yard.
