First, they paint the space by taping off "panels" on the walls and applying shades of yellow, lavender, periwinkle and green.

Interior designer Kristan Cunningham gets to work on the design for the window treatment. She cuts a valance shape from medium-density fiber board (MDF) and then paints it to give it the look of draperies, adding elegant fringe to the edge for extra detail. A fabric balloon shade in lavender and green is hung behind the valance for depth and interest.
