Materials and Tools:
1/4" thick sheet of brown acrylic glass
1/4" thick sheet of blue acrylic glass
3/16" thick sheet of red acrylic glass
small wooden dowel
oven and oven mitts
cookie sheet with tin foil on top
table saw
chop saw
eye hooks
fishing wire
drill with pilot-hole bit
scissors
*Note about acrylic: Use whatever colors, shapes, and thicknesses you would like. If you get anything less than 1/8" thick, the acrylic might start to crack when drilled.
1. Using the table saw and chop saw, cut the acrylic down to squares and rectangles to your desired size. Our sizes were 5"x5", 7"x5" and 4"x5".
2. Turn the oven on to 400 degrees.
3. Place squares and rectangles on a cookie sheet.
4. Bake in the oven at 400 degrees for about 10 minutes.
5. Carefully take the cookie sheet out of the oven and wrap the heated acrylic around a wooden dowel. Use gloves, the acrylic will be hot.
7. Using a pilot-hole bit, drill a hole at the top and bottom of each piece of acrylic. The bottom pieces will only have a hole at the top.
8. Tie fishing wire through each hole to connect each piece of the coiled acrylic. We used ten on a strand.
9. With the pilot-hole bit, drill small holes in the ceiling where you want to hang each strand.
10. Screw an eye hook into each hole in the ceiling.
