Project by Ana A. Araujo.
Materials and Tools:
closet pole cut to 7"
2 large 1/8" thick wood hearts
2 craft sticks
curly crepe wool hair
black fine-line permanent ink pen
water-based clear satin varnish
acrylic paint: flesh tone, white, gold
rub-on faces
paintbrushes
sandpaper
glue
wire
stylus
fine glitter
tulle
scissors
needle & thread
Steps:
1. Cut craft sticks to make two arms. Sand the rough edges.
2. Paint the closet pole, craft sticks and wood hearts with the varnish and let dry.
3. Basecoat the closet pole and craft sticks in light ivory acrylic paint and let dry.
4. Use flesh tone paint to paint the pole 1-1/2" down from the top.
5. Paint the remaining pole and the hearts white.
6. Dip stylus into paint and make a dot pattern on white painted area.
7. Paint a face with black and rose paint; use the fine-line pen to add details.
8. Paint craft sticks to look like arms with the white and flesh paint.
9. Coat all surfaces with varnish.
11. Glue curly crepe wool as hair to the top of the pole.
12. Make a wire halo and glue onto to head.
13. Tie a ribbon around the neck.
14. Add a dress by cutting a 5" x 12" piece of tulle; sew a running base stitch around the top and gather. Glue around neck and add ribbon.
Other options:
To make a tooth fairy, add a tooth pocket/purse made out of white felt.
To make a guardian angel: Paint a pink of blue dress. Write the baby's name and birth informaation on the dress with the fine-line pen.
To make a fairy godmother, just add a metal wand!
To make a whole flock or family of angels, cut the pole in several graduating sizes.
Drill a hole in the top of the head and make the angel into a candleholder.
