Kristan Cunningham, Dave Sheinkopf and Spencer Anderson make this multipurpose room come alive with a better floorplan and contemporary design.
A rich mocha color livens up the walls while contemporary lamps bring additional lighting to the space. The three windows are dressed with taupe-colored panels. For even more privacy, the upper part of the windows are covered with a window tint also used on the closet doors. A striped area rug ties all of the colors together.
Before, this guest room/office was a tight fit with a wicker bed and music and computer equipment. The goal was to give it an updated look with new furniture, colors and storage.
Spencer provides a new home for the music and computer equipment with a wall-length desk unit made out of stained 3/4-inch plywood. Two small storage pieces are outfitted with wheels to make them mobile. A wall-mounted bookshelf holds even more files.
Dave carves out a corner bill-paying spot with a medium-density fiberboard desk cut into a semi-circle. He uses more mdf to create a corner brace underneath.
The wicker bed is replaced with a full-size futon. New pillows in earthtone colors add interest to the putty-colored cover. The mirrored closet doors are updated with window tint from a car-detailing shop. Krista cuts the tint into rectangles and applies it with a spray of soap and water. A squeegee helps to smooth everything out.
