Comfortable and Classic Living Room

Natalie and Michael Wheeler have lived in their house for eight years, but they haven't figured out a way to make their living room feel comfortable. Centrally located posts, a large open space, a metal fireplace and a cinder block half-wall all contribute to the room's turmoil.

The homeowners have placed their furnishings around the posts and windows, which leaves too much space in the center of the room. Some larger items are also out of scale with their surroundings. A sense of cohesion and a focus in the room are much-needed elements here. By creating a focal point and bringing in classic touches, host Karen McAloon creates an elegant living room.
