Hide CaptionShow CaptionThe front face was cut off both tables in order to add the correct decorative elements.
The Double Take team found two tables for $35 each that matched the dimensions of the inspiration room tables perfectly. One of the tables already had an Asian-inspired pattern on the top, so that table was used to duplicate the left side Chinese lacquer table. Jamie built a frame to hold the decorative molding that goes on the face frame. Layers of paint were used to give the molding an aged, gilded effect. It starts with brown stain, then little sprits of black and gold paint are alternated to make the piece look old, then finally another dab of gold and brown. The molding was the attached to the table and the entire piece was given a high gloss finish to replicate the lacquer look of the original.

The right side table (not shown) in the inspiration room is a 19th century Chinese black lacquer and gilt table with bamboo detailing. For the reproduction table Jamie cut bamboo sticks to size and glued them into a grid pattern on the front of the table, then a walnut woodnote finish is applied to the whole table.
