Mississippi Chair Maker Greg Harkins

Greg Harkins has lived in Mississippi for six generations. His chairs are an extension of his roots and memories of his grandmother's front porch. He works on a rocking chair made of local beaudock wood and hickory bark.

Michigan Stained Glass Artist John Dixon

John Dixon's masterpieces are like glass paintings, transformed by the mystery of light. In a light fixture that will fill the entire ceiling of an elegant study, leaves of mottled green, red and orange Tiffany reproduction glass are set off by ivory-colored glass and opaque black jewels.

Hawaiian Potter Denise Phillips

The powerful forces of the Hawaiian Islands pulse through the pottery of Denise Phillips. She creates pots with coils, a primitive process that she prefers over a traditional potter's wheel. She rolls yet another pot from clay coils destined to fire in a lava pit. After coiling a layer onto a base, Phillips smoothes the inside layers and the outside, making sure to create a symmetrical shape as she goes. After an initial bisque firing, she burnishes the vessel with smooth stones, creating a high shine. Finally, she and her brother Matt James fire the vessel in a pit of volcanic rock and sawdust.
