By working within the original footprint of the house, designer Kenneth Brown got rid of the dark and dingy and replaced it with light and sleek elements. He had the ceiling raised in the long and narrow living room, which helped with the spacial proportions and also exposed the wood beams to add a warmth and texture previously lacking. The homeowners wanted a more contemporary look for the fireplace so he disguised it with drywall and added a beautiful wood shelf for the mantel.
