California Country Dining Room Sensible Chic : Episode SEC-512 -- More Projects »
Host Brooke Channon introduces Linda Applewhite, who created an elegantly rustic dining room in the California wine country. Handpainted furniture, antiques, designer fabrics and colorful tableware give the inviting room texture and warmth with an expensive, elegant touch.Transforming the Makeover Room Below are the steps, guided by designer Linda Applewhite, taken to turn a plain white dining room that lacked appropriate furniture into an inviting room full of rustic, colorful appeal: - Painted the walls a rich caramel color, the hue taken from a poster in the room.
Sanded and painted the owners informal dining table with acrylic paint and finished it with a water-based antique glaze. Hung playful striped panel curtains to frame the dining room view and divide the light. Added fabric lampshades to the chandelier to tone down its shiny look.
Painted existing chairs different colors that were then rubbed down and finished with an antiquing glaze. Made cream, sage and cranberry seat cushions for the chairs.
Customized two unfinished pine chests a colorful distressed finish. Accessorized the buffet with large colored plates, a bowl of fruit, textured pears, a large brown urn filled with greenery, and mosaic candleholders of different heights.
Filled in a large wall with a painting flanked by painted wooden arches that have metal votive candleholders attached. Different colored candles were used in the holders. Set the table with heavy plates in a variety of colors, napkins with iron-on patterns, two sets of goblets, one set painted with colorful stripes and the other a deeply colored solid set.
