The spacious room is broken up into smaller areas — a work area for her computer and for projects and a sitting area —defined by color. Jenny picks her favorite color, teal blue, for the long anchor wall. Smaller accent walls are painted a lighter tint of teal for a more youthful feel. Jenny sticks with blue for the flooring, but June prefers the contrast of a brown. Host Jane Lockhart allows a compromise because of the size of the room. She picks a tan cork flooring, which adds color and texture, with the added benefit of absorbing sound. Area rugs in cobalt and white shag add accent color to the floor. For the workspace, the cluttered computer desk is replaced with a long orange countertop, and the wall behind it is painted light and dark orange stripes. White trim and accents and new cream-colored cabinets and reupholstered futons balance the bold colors and satisfy June's neutral tastes.
Did you know? Adding white to strong colors creates a tint, such as the light and dark teal and oranges used in this project.
