$20 - Paint
A coat of slate gray paint is applied to the walls to become the backdrop for the more colorful and graphic elements in the space.
- paint: Behr - Porpoise, 790E- 3
$20 - Headboard
A leather car seat from a 1969 Lincoln Continental is used for a twin-sized headboard. It's attached to the wall with wire strung on two chrome shower hooks.
$88 - Bedding
Basic black bedding is livened up with red, yellow and green pillows. Black and white striped fabric is used to create checkerboard fabric for a body pillow. Wahl cuts the striped fabric into strips and stitches the strips back together to create the checkerboard design.
- comforter: Target - Home, #060100242
- bed skirt: Target - Home, #060100267
$15 - Valance
More striped fabric is used to create the checkerboard fabric valance.
$70 - Shelving Units
Industrial garage shelving is brought in on either side of the bed for a thematic storage solution. The particleboard shelves are painted red for a pop of color.
- metal shelves: Kmart - 1000 Series model #13589
$30 - Bins
Red storage bins are stacked on the shelves to keep things in order.
- red mesh basket: Target - I Scream for Summer, Red #002 02 1114
$11 - Paint
The closet doors are painted to resemble garage doors. Black paint is used to create the faux panels and white paint is used to create a slight shadowed effect.
- paint: Behr - California Poppy S-G-160
$86 - Study Table
Wheel rims are turned into side tables. Long threaded bolts and nuts are used to secure the two rims; a rubber gasket around the top holds a round glass top. A wood base is cut into a stop-sign shape and painted; casters attached to the bottom make the heavy piece mobile.
- stacking stool: Linens 'n Things - LNT Home Attitude, #01803111335
$7 - Road
Wahl paints stripes on the wall to resemble two roads and accents them with two Route 66 signs.
- signs: Target - Celebrating America’s Automotive Heritage, #092010135

A corkboard is painted black then given a graffiti look with red and white spray paint.
$16 - Hubcaps
Old hubcaps are used on the wall for decoration; the wall behind each is painted in red, yellow or green.
$9 - Pegboard
A pegboard is attached to the wall so that hooks can keep sports equipment and hats off the floor.
$66 - Plexiglas Shelves
The young boy's car collection is displayed above his bed on Plexiglas shelves.
$3 - Clock
- clock: Linens 'n Things - Gripper Clock, Klik RR 721-07
