Everybody has a few board games in the closet or under the bed, but nothing compares to this collection of highly coveted antique board game. Paul Fink never gets bored living at a summer camp with all of his collectible board games--500 to be exact. They are all housed in a 250-square-foot cabin on a campground. He collects transportation games from the 1880s to the 1940s--anything that involves planes, trains, automobiles or other mode of transportation. Fink is passionate about the games because of the value and the historical significance of some of them. He continues to add to his collection in part by shopping at the tri-annual Brimfield Antique Market. Here are quick tips on how to start a collection of your own:

  • Look for vintage board games at tag and estate sales in the northeastern United states.
  • Old Candy Land games from 1955 to 1970 now cost from $45 to $50.
  • If you come across an original oilcloth Monopoly game from the 1920s or '30s, you may have hit pay dirt. These have been known to fetch up to $70,000 at auction.
  • Some rare McLoughlin games include Bulls and Bears ($12,000), Wild West (with Buffalo Bill on game; $4,000), Rival Policemen ($2,000 to $3,000), and Man in the Moon ($4,000).
