Before and After: Rearranging Furniture in Your Home

Designer Mike Ragan and host Kitty Bartholomew change the style of his living space by just borrowing furniture from other rooms in the home.

After

Before, the cozy living area is a formal space filled with furnishings in deep, rich colors. Because the space has four doorways, the furniture is relegated towards the center of the space. A large tufted leather ottoman does double-duty as both extra seating and display space (with a silver tray and candles). The dark area rug covers most of the floor and adds to the traditional design.

Before

After, the room has been lightened in both color and style. The large sofa is moved away from the window to one side. A white sofa from another room is placed in front of the window with a drop-leaf table behind. The ottoman is now placed perpendicular to the fireplace. An abundance of greenery creates a breezy, tropical feeling. Additional seating is brought in with the addition of two low-profile green side chairs.
