Before and After: Playroom Makeover

Before

Before the makeover this family room was plain and boring. The furniture in this space was poorly arranged and there was no color to be found.

With a few simple additions, a new layout, and lots of color this space is transformed into a vibrant family room. Check out the details that brought this family room to life.

After

Peggy begins by painting the walls a deep turquoise to start the colorful design. New knobs and a colorful paint job give the armoire a brand new look.

The big-screen TV is hidden behind canvas dropcloths that are livened up with splatter paint in a variety of bright colors. Grommets installed at the top allow them to be hung from planter hooks secured in the ceiling.

The vertical blinds are transformed with fabric for a patchwork effect.

Peggy constructs a playhouse that brings in much-needed storage. A hutch is cut in two and attached to the playhouse, which is simply a box constructed out of plywood. Scraps of trim and molding and a colorful paint job give it personality.

More storage is added underneath the countertop. A tall bookcase is turned on its side and enhanced with turtle-shaped cutouts made of fiberboard.

An old coffee table is turned into a craft table by painting the top with chalkboard paint. A colorful paint job and foam cutouts complete the transformation from coffee table to craft table. A heart-shaped hook constructed out of scrap wood holds a craft caddy made out of a plastic bucket and fabric.
