Redesigner Erica Cooper blends the old with the new to create a living room with a lived-in look that is unified and inviting. Here's how the new look comes together:

  • The sofa is repositioned opposite the fireplace to help establish the main focal point. The rest of the furniture is arranged around the sofa to create a comfortable conversation area.
  • A buffet brought in from another room gives the opposite side of the space some weight.
  • The homeowner's red drapery panels are used to add color to the windows; stencils create a stylish treatment above two high-placed windows.
  • Pulling in more touches of red with the accessories helps unify this cozy, comfortable room.
