AfterHe Said, She Said
Patrick Vincent and Dina Bloomfield aren't seeing eye to eye when it comes to redesigning their living room. Dina wants a bright wall color, but Patrick prefers a simple earth tone; Patrick wants dark leather furniture, but Dina envisions floral fabric. They also disagree on flooring: Dina likes hardwood whereas Patrick prefers carpeting. And finally, there is the sliding glass door. Dina really likes the idea of a recycled rustic French door, but Patrick prefers a French door that is much newer and has a maintenance-free look.
Shopping for Solutions
Designer Michael Payne's plans include mixing and matching Dina and Patrick's ideas by creating a furniture arrangement in neutral earth tones for Patrick, accented with toile fabric throw pillows to satisfy Dina's need for color. He also suggests creating wall panels and painting them in contrasting colors around the room. The couple agree to his plans and head off to Superior Moulding to shop for the moulding that will create the panels in which Dina will paint murals. The shopping trip is a success when Patrick and Dina agree on a simple pine style.
While the contractor is busy installing the new rustic French doors Payne pays Dina a visit to check on the progress of the mural design that she'll paint above the fireplace. Payne is pleased with her artistic creation and she gets to work on this unique element.
A Happy Ending
Now the room comes alive with subtle yet dramatic color! The focal point, of course, is Dina's mural above the fireplace, highlighted with a rich wood mantel that sets the whole room aglow. Dina and Patrick's separate wishes have blended together wonderfully to create a warm, inviting room.
