Before and After: Add-an-Entryway Living Room Redesign

Interior redesigners Cynthia Ann Hughes and Kristie Moore create a much-needed entryway for a living room.

After

First, the redesigners bring the sofa closer to the fireplace and away from the wall, creating a walkway behind. They also use a smaller chair from upstairs with a lamp for a reading area.

A trunk in front of the sofa becomes the new coffee table while a bench and bookcase are placed on the wall behind the sofa to define the entry.

The dining table is pulled away from the wall and situated in the space slightly off-center, leaving a walkway to the kitchen.

Before

Before the makeover the layout did not factor in an entryway. Instead guests would awkwardly enter the home and instantly be in the living room. With some simple rearranging the room now feels like two separate spaces — living room and entryway.
