AfterFirst, the redesigners bring the sofa closer to the fireplace and away from the wall, creating a walkway behind. They also use a smaller chair from upstairs with a lamp for a reading area.
A trunk in front of the sofa becomes the new coffee table while a bench and bookcase are placed on the wall behind the sofa to define the entry.
The dining table is pulled away from the wall and situated in the space slightly off-center, leaving a walkway to the kitchen.
