Hardwood is rarely a star in a boutique hotel room that’s aiming to scoop you up and soothe you. Likewise, your bedroom flooring should be soft and inviting. If you do have hardwood, choose a rug that’s comfortable, such as shag. For wall-to-wall, go for sumptuous, deep-pile carpet in a neutral shade. If the master bedroom is open to the sitting area, it’s nice to tie it together by adding one big area rug, such as the stunning Oriental rug that sets the tone for the inviting Old World bedroom suite pictured. Don’t be afraid to put area rugs on top of wall-to-wall carpet for added plush texture.
