Here's a headboard anyone can make. Bromstad finds a tri-fold wooden screen that he separates into individual panels and then hangs, slightly spaced, onto the wall. Using dark wood in a brightly colored space anchors the room. Another reverse trick to tone down the wall colors is to use brighter accent colors; it makes bright colors on the walls look more muted. Bromstad does this with decorative pillows made from shiny fabrics and intense colors.
