Today, a sidewalk leads from the curb to an impressive pair of charcoal-gray doors. One is false, containing a mail slot and displaying the home's distinctive house numbers; the other opens into a modest foyer designated by a skeletal wall of mahogany planks. Coats are tucked into storage closets concealed behind overlapping panels of flawless Philippine mahogany. In the 1950s, it was almost as cheap as pine and dominates the decor.
