Back-from-College Room

Country Style : Episode COS-408 -- More Projects »
As most parents of daughters will tell you, it doesn't take long for little girls to become young ladies so the cute country bedroom that was perfect at eight just isn't right for eighteen. Inside an Iowa showhouse, Country Home magazine's Mary Emmerling has created a youthful bedroom that's filled with sophisticated charm.

The space is very pretty-in-pink with textural accents and furnishings. The floral wallpaper creates a delicate backdrop that's not too feminine and gives the room an instant sense of age. The bed has a painted and distressed frame and is layered with a traditional quilt in pink, yellow, white and a hint of orange, a shocking pink silky coverlet and smocked sheets and pillows. Side tables include a painted blue cupboard and a wicker piece draped with a small quilt used as a table topper. The French country style is noticeable in the woven wire side chair. A braided rug in soft pastel tones adds comfort underfoot.

The closet door is left open to reveal the fancy striped wallpaper, reminiscent of a '40s design. A beaded chandelier makes the space even more special. Lining the back wall is a peg rack with porcelain glass pulls; a chest-of-drawer adds additional storage.
