AfterIt was the charming interior of this cottage-style bungalow that stole the hearts of David and Susan Steeno and made them homeowners. After plenty of cosmetic work on the inside, the Steenos are happy with the results and are eager to turn their attention to their neglected front yard. The couple would like to resurface the front porch, repave the driveway, move the walkway that splits the yard down the middle, and find a solution for the Chinese elm tree that creates too much shade and blocks the view of the mountains. With the help of a landscape designer and a budget of $12,500, the Steenos hope to create an informal and friendly setting for their home.
Three designers are up to the challenge. Landscape architect Rick Fisher presents a user-friendly design appropriate to the Steenos' home. Designer Alison Flesch visualizes an organic and inviting look for the yard that includes whimsical accessories for a personal touch. Annie St. Claire and Terry Morrill plan to give the Steenos a romantic yard with old world charm.
After a week of reviewing the three plans, the Steenos choose the design presented by Morrill and St. Claire, who transform their barren backyard into an enchanting garden.
