Hide CaptionShow CaptionA warm color scheme helps make this den a welcoming place the whole family can enjoy.
For the walls, Anil and Kimberly choose red, which has a lot of energy and drama and is a good conversation starter. Not all reds are created equally, though. Some deep reds, those with grayer tones, need a deep base primer. The dark green carpeting is replaced with golden yellow carpeting to lighten the red walls but maintain the warm color scheme. To make the fireplace more of a focal point, the cold marble hearth is replaced with slate tiles in warm shades of brown, yellow and orange; the tiles continue up and around the fireplace wall. A deeper yellow satin for the drapes rounds out the warm color scheme. The black cabinet fronts are replaced with rich oak fronts, which bring in a new texture and blend better with the natural slate fireplace.

Did You Know? People are more active in red rooms. And yellow makes people feel more optimistic.
