Overhead lighting is a must in an open floor plan like this. The primary source of light is halogen lights in the ceiling. Another light hangs from the ceiling and is brought down to table height with a long cord. Two fabric lamps in the back corner add ambiant lighting.
The chandelier is the main source of light in this dining room. The shape of it helps to wash the ceiling with light, which creates a warm glow.
Be sure to choose lamps and shades that complement the artwork near it. The cylindrical base pictured above counteracts the straight lines in the art and the black and gold shade doesn't compete with the colors.
