Good bargains and a lot of creativity have helped this homeowner make her 1907 house a showplace.

The look in the bathroom is a combination of sleek materials paired with old-fashioned elements. The inspiration for the bathroom design was the clawfoot tub, which was salvaged from the homeowner's mother's house. It was freshened with a coat of silver paint on the bottom. Slate tiles, black trim and gray painted walls add a contemporary feel to the space; antique light fixtures reinforce a more traditional style.

A circle theme is prevalent in the nursery. The homeowner began the look by decoupaging a cabinet with a circle of wallpaper, then expanded the look to the walls, fabrics and furnishings. She created the interesting wall treatment with a stencil pattern and striping tool. She used striped fabric for the curtains for visual interest against the circles, but accented the edges with ball fringe to unify the look. The light fixture is three paper lanterns strung together — a bulb in the center adds ambiant lighting.

Upstairs, an unfinished attic space has been transformed into a comfortable guest room. She wasn't pleased with her attempt at trimming the windows so she painted a dramatic design around each to draw attention away from her mistakes.
