Shoebox: Patio Game Board, Dressy People Pens, Edge Scrap Cards Carol Duvall Show : Episode CDS-1720 -- More Projects » By Carol Duvall
Loved the idea that came out of the Shoebox today sent in by Carol Pavini of League City, Texas. Carol recently had her patio enlarged, and she had the workmen lay large squares of concrete and dark slate in a checkerboard pattern. It not only looks pretty but it's great for the grandchildren to play chess and checkers on! When they played only checkers, they used large bowls which were turned over when they were crowned. As the youngsters grew older and learned to play chess, they used plastic gallon jugs with faces drawn on them with magic marker to designate the queens, kings, pawns, etc., which they partially filled with sand to weigh down. Such creativity! Such fun!
Kay Eacker of Hixon, Tenn., also sent in a project that brought a smile to our faces. Kay dresses up her ballpoint pens with chenille stems. And when I say "dresses them up," I mean just that. She wraps the chenille stems around the pens, adds some fabric and a lot of imagination to make all manner of special people. In just the group she sent to us, she included a bride, a St. Patricks Day angel, a Tennessee cheerleader, and several very dressed up ladies in chenille stems and lace. Very clever.
Clever too, was the idea sent in by Doris Nikolai of San Diego, Calif. Doris does a lot of cutting with her decorative scissors when she is crafting and as a result, has a lot of odds and ends pieces left over. So she gathered some up, glued them in a patchwork pattern to the front of a plain card, and there you are...another card...almost instant...and very pretty. Now THAT is recycling at its best.
