Rita Urbaniak of Peoria, Ill., sent in some very nice cards with a rather interesting story to go with them. Rita has a friend who makes and takes about 400 valentines to a veterans home each year, and she asked Rita for a little help.Rita wrote that she shops around for her craft supplies and searches around for sales. This time she came up with some white construction paper for 1 cent a sheet. This served as the basic card. At a yard sale she found some prepasted wallpaper border paper with images of angels that she purchased as well. She used decorative scissors to cut the images of the angels into rectangles slightly smaller than the card, glued them to the card, and then decorated the white border space around the cutouts with dots and stars made with a metallic pen. It was so simple and so quick but the end result was very nice. Inside the card she printed a poem her husband had written that was appropriate for the occasion. It was bordered with the red, white and blue for the veterans and was apparently printed out on the computer. Rita wrote that she made 25 cards at a total cost of 45 cents for the entire batch!
Linda Reyes of Tillamook, Ore., sent in one of the handsomest and most beautifully done tote bags I’ve seen, made from recycled blue jeans! Linda creates her own designs, and each bag is quilted with a different pattern on the front and back. They are all completely lined. Linda also sent in photographs of a number of her other totes, each one more attractive than the one before. It would be difficult to select a favorite. Linda can be contacted by writing her at:
