If not using your good scissors for a month or so, consider putting a drop of sewing machine oil on the blades then closing them to prevent rust from forming. Then, before using them again, cut into some scrap cloth that can serve as a blotter to remove the oil.
Here's another tip—if your family uses your fabric scissors to cut any and everything, try labeling the scissors with a "Do Not Touch" tag. A simple homemade hang tag should alert non-sewers that these are mom's 'good' scissors and shouldn't be used for cutting paper, etc.
