For proper pressing of seams in a quilt top:

  • Use a firm pressing surface for pressing pieces.
  • Always press pieced segments right side up to avoid tucks.
  • Use a surface with some "give" when pressing applique (try placing a clean towel on your pressing surface).
  • Always press on applique wrong side up.
