  • Make sure that all seams are stitched securely with no seams left unstitched.
  • An accurate 1/4-inch seam allowance is important. The long-arm quilting machine pulls the fabric taut and is stretched; if the seams are not strong and accurate, the long-arm machine will pull the seams apart.
  • Provide a backing fabric that is at least six inches larger on all sides of the quilt top.
  • Allow the long-arm machine quilter to choose the batting. Long-arm quilting machines can be harsh on certain battings.
  • Meticulously press the seams and the quilt top.
  • Make sure there is no pet hair on the quilt top.
