Project by Emi Fukushima.
Materials and Tools:
Fimo soft polymer clay: black, beige, white, yellow, green
pasta maker
needle tool
liquid polymer
Pulver or Rub 'n' Buff
wire mesh
Kozo paper
bamboo stick
pearls
jade charm
Shikishi board
shadow box
white glue
Steps:
1. Condition clay: Flatten 1 oz. of black clay on #3 (medium setting) on the pasta maker. Make an irregular shape.
2. Using 1 oz. each of beige and white clay, mix the two colors and repeat step 1 (figure A).
3. Apply liquid polymer over entire surface (front and back) of a piece of Kozo paper. Place on beige/white clay (figure B).
4. To make the weave, put 2 oz. of conditioned black clay through the pasta machine on a #3 (medium setting).
5. Cut about 30 strips 1/4 inch wide. Place the strips on another solid piece of black clay (#3 setting). Weave the strips.
6. Apply copper/gold Pulver over the weave (figure F).
7. Cut edges. Place the weave over the other layered clay.
8. To make the flower, make small petals out of a small piece of white conditioned clay. Use a needle tool to put lines through petals (figure G).
9. Attach the petals onto a small flattened piece of white clay. Layer the petals to form flower (figure H).
10. Add a small piece of yellow clay in the center of the flower and poke with needle tool to texture.
11. Make a small leaf with green clay (figure I).
12. Place the flower onto the weave.
13. Bake the entire piece in oven at 265 F degrees for 30 minutes.
