Every girl needs accessories, and we're going to show you that you can even knit jewelry! We have the perfect accessory to wear with your new chenille tank top: a silky knit choker. This one is knit from a Daria Multi, a multicolor rayon-and-cotton blend that has a cordlike appearance, but you can use just about any yarn that appeals to you.
Materials and Tools
1/2 ball Noro's Daria Multi
one pair of size 8 needles
scissors
row counter
cable hook
Check the gauge: Knit a swatch in stockinette stitch on size 8 needle. If you aren't getting 4 stitches to 1" and 16 stitches to 4", change needles.
Finished size: 1-1/2"x11"
Gauge: 16 stitches = 4"
With size 6 needles, cast on 8 stitches. Leave a 7" tail when beginning the row.
Knit 2 rows.
Next row, knit 2 stitches, Make 1, knit 4 stitches, Make 1, knit 2 stitches.
Work on 10 stitches as follows:
Row 1 Knit
Row 2 Knit 2 stitches, purl 6 stitches, knit 2 stitches
Row 3 Knit
Row 4 Knit 2 stitches, purl 6 stitches, knit 2 stitches
Row 5 Knit 2 stitches,
Then knit 3 stitches from the left needle, then knit the 3 stitches from the cable hook (figure C), knit 2 stitches.
Row 6 Knit 2 stitches, purl 6 stitches, knit 2 stitches
Row 7 Knit
Row 8 Knit 2 stitches, purl 6 stitches, knit 2 stitches
Row 9 Knit
Row 10 Knit 2 stitches, purl 6 stitches, knit 2 stitches
After 10 rows have been worked begin again from row 1. Work rows 1 – 10 seven times total. You will have 8 cables (twists).
Now work one row as follows;
Knit 2 stitches, knit 2 stitches together (figure D), knit 2, knit 2 stitches together, knit 2 stitches. 8 stitches remain.
Knit 2 rows.
Bind off loosely in knit stitch. Cut 7" of yarn when ending the bind off.
Make 4 pieces 14" long and attach to the four corners of the necklace as if you were attaching fringe.
Cut to desired length to make either a bow or small knot when you wear, or attach a snap closure.
