For his second project, Bob Jordan makes a leather dog collar.

Materials:

leather
1" metal d-ring
chain dog leash
1" metal buckle
white glue
brush
heavy-duty sewing machine
quick rivets
hammer
hole punch
ruler
rotary cutter
awl
oval leather punch

Steps:

1. Cut leather into two 3" x 24" strips (figure A).

2. Glue the strips together with white glue and let dry.

3. Cut one piece one inch wide and shape the ends into a triangle (figure B). Leave one end square.

4. Top stitch along the edges of the strips using a sewing machine (figure C).

5. Fold the square end over about 1 inch.

6. Using an oval punch put one punch in the middle of the fold positioned in the direction of the length (figure D).

7. Place the square end through the buckle (figure E) and punch two holes for quick rivets under the buckle.

8. Place quick rivets in the holes and hammer together. This will secure the buckle (figure F).

9. Size to the dog by using an old collar. Space five holes 1 inch apart. Use the middle hole most of the time (figure G).

10. Cut off any extra and stitch the end.

11. Slide the d-ring about 1 inch from the buckle, and by using a little scrap leather, quick rivet the scrap on either side of the d-ring.

12. For the leash handle glue together a double thickness of leather. Square the ends and cut to the desired width.

13. Stitch the edges of the leash handle.

14. Quick rivet the leather strip to the chain leash.
