Project by Joanna Stein from North Hollywood, Calif.
In this project, Joanna whips up an embossed fabric make-up brush bag.
Materials and Tools:
iron
acetate-rayon velvet
bold rubber stamp *
spray bottle
fabric fray glue
eyelets
eyelet tool
* Finely detailed stamps will not emboss well.
Steps:
1. Set iron to dry wool setting. Cut velvet to a rectangle. Use glue along the edge to stop the fraying. Place the rubber stamp facing up on top of the ironing surface. Place the velvet right side down on top of the stamp. Spray the back of the fabric with water.
2. Place iron on top of stamp for 20 seconds or so to emboss it. Avoid the steam holes. Lift the fabric from the stamp and repeat as desired. Sewing the bag: Turn down top edge 1 inch. Sew a seam across the top, leaving about 3/4 inch at the top.
