Steps:

1. Paint wood with sealant and then sand according to manufacturer's instruction.

2. Paint a white base coat on the clock face. Let dry.

3. Using transfer paper and a stylus, draw design on clock face (figure A).

4. Paint the four ball knobs, one each in navy blue, kelly green, bright red and opaque yellow.

5. Paint the bottom square of clock base with bright red and the top square with opaque yellow.

6. Paint stripes on beveled edges of both squares and on four poles according to photo (figure B).

7. Paint the center of the mouth and inside of eyes in tangerine; paint outer mouth in opaque yellow.

8. Paint nose and cheeks bright red, triangles below and above eyes in kelly green, and outer edge of eyes in purple (figure C).

9. Using a liner brush, paint the center of eye pupil in purple; outline the pupil in white when dry.

10. Use wooden end of liner brush to apply opaque yellow dots to bright red square (figure D) and bright red dots to opaque yellow square (figure E).

11. For a protective finish, apply two or three coats of satin varnish.

12. Using a black fine-point permanent marker, outline all facial features.

13. Attach pom-poms in a random pattern to top of clock face with hot glue (figure F). Leave the hole in the pom-pom facing out.

14. Wrap chenille stems around finger to curl; glue ends into pom-pom holes (figure G).

15. Cut two tie shapes from yellow felt (figure H). Cut different size circles from red felt and apply to yellow tie shapes. Glue yellow tie shapes to front and back of pendulum.

16. Following package directions, attach clock movement and pendulum (figure I).

Tips:

- Let paint dry before adding any details or highlights. Speed drying time with a blow dryer.

- Use clear tape to mark paint stripes for even application.
