Beaded Necklace and Earrings
Materials and Tools:
20+ colored safety pins
glass beads (E beads are a good choice)
18-gauge wire to match beads
small needlenose pliers
wire cutters
2 earring findings
Steps:
1. To make the necklace: Open up 20 safety pins and slip beads onto shaft. The number of beads will be determined based on the size of the beads.
2. Close each pin as you fill it and crimp the head shut with pliers to secure beads.
3. Measure and snip 25 inches of wire. Slip a beaded safety pin onto wire through the loop, with the pin head hanging down. Follow this with an E bead. Continue alternating the beaded pins with the E beads until you have used up all the pins. Center on the wire.
4. Fill remaining sides of the wire with beads of your choice, leaving 3 inches free at each end. Bend wire back to hold beads in place.
5. Holding the wire end, using the pliers, curl around in an open loop twice to form a decorative clasp/hook at each end.
6. To make the earrings: Follow steps 1 and 2 from necklace, above, filling and securing four pins.
7. Cut two pieces of wire, 3 inches long each. Bend wire in half in a U shape. Using pliers, make a small loop at each end. Slip one pin at each loop, hanging the same as on the necklace.
8. Grasp the ends of the wire with pliers and curl around the pin in a circle, securing the pins but allowing them to hang freely.
9. Using pliers, open loop at the bottom of the earring finding; slip on wire with beaded pins and close.
Faux Leather Choker and Bracelet
Materials and Tools:
1/2" black/metallic eyelet trim *
1/8" red faux suede cord *
1 pkg. Basting Brights colored safety pins
red and black glass beads
needlenose pliers
scissors
tape measure
* Measure wrist and neck and add 4 inches to this measurement for the length of eyelet trim needed. Note: You will need an even number of eyelets for the necklace and the bracelet each. Add 1-1/3 yard to this measurement for the amount of suede cord needed.
Steps:
1. Slip assorted red and black beads onto the shaft of 15 pins. The number of beads is determined by the size of your beads. Close the pins. Crimp each pinhead with your needle nose pliers as you go along, securing the beads.
2. To make the bracelet: Measure 6 eyelets and cut. Cut 20 inches of red cord for the bracelet and set aside the remainder to be used for the necklace.
3. Starting from the wrong side, thread the cord up through the first eyelet down through the second and back up through the third.
4. Slip three beaded pins onto cord through the pin loops(heads will be hanging down).
5. Thread cord down through fourth eyelet, up through the fifth and down through the sixth.
6. Pull red cords until ends are equal. This is your tie/closure.
7. To make the necklace: Measure approximately 12 eyelets and cut.
8. Starting from the right side, thread the remaining red cord down through the first eyelet, up through the second, down through the third and up through the fourth. At this point, slip four beaded pins onto the cord through the pin loops.
9. Thread cord down through the fifth eyelet and up through the sixth; slip on four more beaded pins and thread down through the seventh eyelet and up through the eighth. Slip on remaining four beaded pins and weave cord through the remaining eyelets.
10. Pull red cords until ends are equal. This is your tie/closure.
