Anna Griffin: Pleated Photo Frame

Cropper challenger Anna Griffin created this stunning pleated photo frame for your scrapbooking pages!

Anna Griffin threw down the gauntlet in the Croppers Challenge by creating a pleated photo frame that would enhance any scrapbook page!

Materials:

1/8" hole punch
ruler
pencil
paper trimmer
scissors
double-sided adhesive
glue
black pen
glitter
chalk
1 sheet AG072 Cream Platinum Toile
2 sheets AGO10 Platinum Solid
1 sheet AG089 Platinum Repousse
1 sheet AG090 Cream and Platinum Stripes
ivory card stock

Steps:

Cut mat from solid platinum paper (AGO10) 8" x 10".
Center photo on mat and pencil in position or adhere with temporary adhesive. Cut ribbon strips from striped patterned paper (AG090)—these stripes are about 1/2" wide. Place them on the mat around the photo. Miter the corners.

Cut eight strips of platinum repousse (AG089), each 1-1/4" wide. Connect two strips together to make a 24" long strip; repeat with other strips. Draw a line 1/8" in from the edge of the strip. These will become the guide to place holes for "stitching." Mark the strips along the long edge at 3/4" and 1/4" intervals (figure A). These are the marks for the pleats. Fold paper along the marks, being sure to turn the folds in alternate directions.

Punch holes along the edge of the pleated strip. Punch through the fold that is on the back, along the line drawn earlier. Cut 1/8" x 12" long strips of detail from ribbon pattern of striped patterned paper. Thread these through the holes (figure B), up and down, along the edge of the pleated paper. Anchor the ends with glue.

Attach pleated strips to the mat, around the previously placed ribbon strips (figure C).

Overlap corners, then cut through both at a 45-degree angle to miter the corner.

Cut strip from stripped patterned paper. Cut 2" wide strip from platinum repousse pattern. Mount stripe onto repousse piece. Notch the ends. Cut 2-1/4" wide strip of solid platinum. Mount notched piece on top, allowing solid to extend from the bottom edge of the piece. Notch solid piece to mat other piece. Mount onto background page, centering. Add mat to page.

Cut four strips of-platinum repousse patterned paper, each 1" x 3". Add a strip of the ribbon pattern from the striped paper to the center of each strip. Fold the strips around the corner of the photo or a piece of card stock to make photo corners (figure D). Add adhesive to the back of the corner and attach to the photo.

Cut strip of striped patterned paper, about 1" x 12". Mount onto strip of solid platinum paper, about 1-1/4" x 12". Cut this into two pieces -- one 8" long and the other 4" long. Cut piece of platinum repousse pattern 2" x 8". Attach matted strip of pattern to the floral repousse. Fold ends under to meet each other at the center back. Holding this in place, trim floral repousse into a bow shape, leaving the center as an inch wide flat section. Open the piece back up, mount it on a solid platinum piece and trim to that the platinum mats the repousse. Refold the bow and adhere. Use 4" strip of matted stripe to fold around the center of the bow. Attach it in back. Mount completed bow (figure E) onto mat at bottom of photo.
