- Check your manufacturer's recommendations for cleaning and oiling your machine.
- Sewing machine oil should be clear. If the oil in your bottle has turned brown, throw it out. The discoloration means the oil has turned rancid.
- After oiling your machine, run a scrap of fabric through machine four or five times to make sure there is no residue left on the machine.
