His-and-Her Master Bath

Homeowners Allison and Kevin like to share everything, well, almost everything — they hate sharing their master bathroom. It’s a minuscule room with no elbow room, ugly 1970s decor and a shower door that barely opens. To make matters worse, she likes to keep the room neat and orderly, while he has a tendency to be messy and disorganized.

The biggest issue in this bathroom is the odd layout. There are two sinks, but one of them is outside the bathroom, in the bedroom. The homeowners think the sink in the bedroom is a waste because the space is awkward and they never use it. Another problem is the shower door — it doesn’t open all the way. To squeeze into the shower, the homeowners joke that they have stand sideways, then inhale. To solve the couple's sharing problem, designer Krista Watterworth and carpenter Marc Bartolomeo have a design plan that will give them both the space they need.
